Small treats, big training moments.
The VeggyDog journal · 3 min read

You don’t need an hour, a perfect park, or a pocket full of tricks. A few calm minutes and a tiny reward can turn everyday life into an opportunity to learn together.
Make the reward small.
Choose small, easy-to-eat pieces so your dog can enjoy a reward and stay engaged. Count training treats as part of the day’s food intake and keep treats within a small part of daily calories.
Catch the good moment.
Reward the behavior you want as soon as it happens. A calm sit by the door, a glance back on a walk, or four paws on the floor are all worth noticing.
Keep it kind. Keep it short.
Work in a quiet space at first, use positive reinforcement, and stop while you’re both still enjoying it. If your dog is worried or overwhelmed, make the task easier and give them space.
Celebrate progress, not perfection.
Every dog learns at their own pace. Consistency and patience go a long way. For persistent behavior concerns, seek a qualified reward-based trainer or veterinary behavior professional.
